The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on July 16, 2026, notified regarding the Holidays to be observed in Central Government Offices during the year 2027.
The following has been stated:
• It has notified the holiday arrangements for Central Government offices for 2027. Delhi/New Delhi offices will observe the holidays specified in Annexure-I, while each employee may avail two Restricted Holidays of their choice from Annexure-II. Offices outside Delhi/New Delhi will observe compulsory holidays including Republic Day, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday, Dussehra, Diwali, Christmas, Good Friday, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Mahavir Jayanti, Buddha Purnima, Idu’l Fitr, Idu’l Zuha, Muharram and Id-e-Milad, along with three optional holidays selected from the prescribed list of local festivals.
• The selected holidays will apply uniformly to Central Government offices within the concerned State, and no substitute holiday will be allowed if a festival falls on a weekly off/non-working day or coincides with another festival. Dates of Idu’l Fitr, Idu’l Zuha, Muharram and Id-e-Milad may be changed based on moon sighting. For 2027, Diwali falls on October 29, 2027, although offices may observe Naraka Chaturdasi instead where the concerned State Government follows that practice. Central Government industrial, commercial and trading establishments may observe up to 16 holidays, while UT Administrations, Indian Missions abroad and banks will follow their respective applicable holiday instructions.
